Heidevolk – Walhalla Wacht
Albeit the language barrier, the music of Heidevolk originates deep within their Dutch Gelderland roots, combining metal with Dutch folk and language, to create a group of non-english speaking songs which regardless of the language, are awesome to listen to. That is what I feel folk metal should be, in the native language because it allows the listener to hear a new accent and language but also potentially start learning that language. But its not the language that matters as Heidevolk have proven with this album, such energy flows through this intricate Dutch masterpiece, starting off with ‘Saksenland’, the Dutch folk metallers know how to reignite the celebrations of their Saxon forefathers, this is clearly seen in ‘Hulde Aan De Kastelein’, as no guitars or drums are used, just Dutch vocals, rhyming and the heavy footsteps in a timing beat from the Heidevolk bandmembers, scintillating folk music comes from the lowlands of the Netherlands.
